  • Agricultural Environmental Management (AEM) is a NYS program that is voluntary, non-regulatory program that offers Montgomery County farmers funding opportunities addressing agricultural resource concerns on their farms.  Our AEM planners work with you to develop whole farm conservation plans, and provide management options in improving water quality.

For more information contact us, or check out the AEM website:

Vegetative Treatment Area- Before/After
This area of permanent vegetation is used to improve water quality by using vegetation to reduce the loading of nutrients and contaminants that are associated with livestock, poultry, and other agricultural operations.

Stream Crossing- Before/After
These crossings are stabilized areas or structures constructed across a stream to provide a way for people, livestock, equipment, or vehicles to cross the stream.

Manure Storage - Before and After
These Storages provide farmers with a system to help with collection, storage, and recycling of valuable nutrients to the land.  Storing these farm wastes during poor spreading conditions greatly reduces runoff contamination risks t surface and ground waters.
Covered Barnyard- Before and After
Covered barnyard, also considered a Heavy Use Area, is any outsie areas where livestock use or their traffic is concentrated over time; inluding feed lots, handlng areas, exercise or watering areas, laneways, or even calf pens/hutches.
